It may not be quite what you had in mind, but I get a very satisfying feeling from being at the end of my PhD and in the last stages of writing my thesis: I realise just how far I’ve come in these past 4 years, and more generally 8 years of uni. I’m thankful to the people I’ve met along the way and to those who’ve offered me advice, guidance and support. I think it’s a very wholesome way to finish a degree.

At the same time, it also means I’m about to start a new job, meet some new people, start mentoring a student of my own – and it’s all very exciting!

Daily life is a bit of a struggle at the moment as we all go through social distancing in response to coronavirus, so it’s important to appreciate the little things. My favourite thing about life right now is having the time in the morning to make my coffee fresh, being able to enjoy it whilst still in my PJs and slippers, and the ability to take a nap if I need to (man I sound ready for retirement already don’t I).

I travel a lot for work, spending 4 of the 5 days in the week away from home, so working from home has meant that I see more of my fiancé. We get to have dinner together every night and my cat is there in the day for company!

Life is a bit tricky at the moment but it has shown just how compassionate and kind people are. My colleagues are really coming together and showing their support for one another while we are working from home and not in the office. We have daily catch ups and are setting up activities over lunch times where we can all interact and talk to one another. Although, the current situation can be a bit worrying, it has shown that we can come together and support one another.
