Research into cures and vaccines takes a long time usually – it’s not really my area of expertise but I believe because of how urgent this public health situation is a lot of time, money, and effort by some really amazing people is going into creating those breakthroughs as quickly as possible. For closing schools, the key to any successful public health intervention like this is timing. Telling people to stay at home all the time and closing schools obviously can’t go on forever, so it needs to start at the right time so that we’re able to make the most of it when fighting the virus, before we have to return to normal life again. I’m not a supporter of this current government, but I believe Boris is acting on advice from his scientific advisers who have a lot more experience and information to make these decisions 🙂
